Keep it clean by keeping it away from chemicals, lotions, perfumes, excessive humidity, and protect from heavy, hard wearing activities such as sports, heavy work, or vigorous exercise. The main culprits that shorten the life of your jewelry are: never taking it off, wearing it while sleeping, wearing it in hot tubs and pools, and while playing sports. Store in an airtight container such as jewelry box or zip lock baggie while not wearing. When storing long term, make sure to clean and dry thoroughly before storing.
GEMSTONE CARE: Pearls are an organic gemstone, and should be cleaned with warm soapy water, or gentle jewelry cleaners that list that it’s safe for pearls. Store your pearls in a breathable cloth bag or jewelry box, and separate from other jewelry to avoid scratching the surface. Protect pearl’s luster from chemicals by putting your pearl jewelry on at least 30 minutes after applying lotions or perfumes, and wipe with a soft, damp cloth after each wear to remove any dirt, sweat or chemicals. Because a pearl’s surface is soft, protect from harsh chemicals and heavy wear during work or sports.
MATERIALS:
14kt gold-filled jewelry is made with thick layer of gold (5% by weight) bonded to a high quality metal core of silver, brass, or copper. Although it isn’t solid gold, it essentially functions the same as any 14kt gold jewelry: it wont rub off or turn colors easily. It can be treated and cleaned as you would 14kt gold, and lasts 10-30 years of everyday wear with care. It can be cleaned with warm, soapy water, and a soft brush, then dried with a soft cloth.
Gold Vermeil:
The gold vermeil we use is sterling silver coated in an almost 24kt gold overlay, and is thicker than plated gold jewelry. Care should be taken when cleaning vermeil by not rubbing excessively, to protect the longevity of the gold surface. Clean with warm soapy water, or gold cleaner, and rinse well. Pat dry with soft cloth. Prevention of tarnish is best with vermeil jewelry, so be sure to remove before bed, sports, swimming, or applying perfumes or lotions. Store in an airtight container or jewelry box.
